Cardinal Pharmacy opened in November 2008. Located in the heart of the reservation and within blocks from the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Nimkee Memorial Wellness Center, and Tribal Government Operations, the pharmacy is perfectly located to serve the over 3,500 employees of the Tribe, as well as the general public. Patrons of the pharmacy can enjoy the friendly service and wide range of retail items yet feel comforted by the selection of name brand and generic brand prescription drugs and over the counter medication the Cardinal Pharmacy offers. The pharmacy concept sprung from an idea in Tribal Administration to save money on employee health benefits. Prior to Cardinal Pharmacy the Tribe, which self funds its health care plan, paid full retail for medication dispensed through outside pharmacies. With Cardinal Pharmacy the Tribe can now dispense medication at a wholesale cost. It is expected the tribe will save over $2 million in health care costs for employees and their family members. In March of 2009, Tribal Council also approved a discounted prescription drug plan for its employees of all entities who participate in the tribal benefits plan.
