Arnold J. Sowmick Sr. Plaza

A retail strip mall has been the topic of discussion with previous Tribal Council Administrations since 1995.

Plans were dusted off and resurrected in 2006 by Tribal Council, many months prior to Migizi being formed.

The project moved under Migizi management in 2007 and was completed in 2008.

The retail plaza provides a home for the Tribe's new Cardinal Pharmacy, the future site of the Chippewa Eagle Federal Credit Union, and other community focused businesses.

Our first Tribal Member owned business tenant is Red Arrow Pizza, owned by the Avery family.

The Arnold J. Sowmick Sr. Plaza is the Tribe's first true commercial development project that was preplanned with a projected return on investment (ROI) in mind prior to design.

The ROI goal drove the design and construction from day one and marked a new strategy for Tribal development projects.

The benefits to opening a business in this plaza include; no property taxes, no personal property taxes, minimal business regulations falling under the jurisdiction of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe and not Union Township or the State of Michigan, eligibility for a tribal issued liquor license, minimal zoning restrictions, accelerated depreciation and possible 8a status.
